An Unimpeachable Executive
The idea of Trump impeachment removal trial will come down to an absolute party line split demonstrates the GOP and the DEMS party affiliation rise to a higher level than the good of the nation.
It appears there is something in the minds of the men and women of Congress which makes their party affiliation and their adherence to it paramount. The concept of what is “the good of the nation” must be debated among the greater body politic and not be declared by any incumbency. The Republican position is with their party represented in the White House anything “their” Chief Executive says or does is both the best and only action acceptable. On the other side there is the Democrat position that such unchallenged authority flies in the face of the Constitution and our Democracy itself.
This article is written a couple of hours before the Senate removal vote on Jan 31, but high confidence in the mindsets of the 100 Senators suggests the final vote will be 53 R-Senators voting to acquit and the 47 Dem and Ind voting to remove. This will prove the outcome was based on pre-determined decisions and not based on any amount of testimony and documentation read or heard in either of the House inquiry or the Senate trial. Without the voting position being in the nature of party ideology who can one explain the complete divergence between the parties. It is as though there is one shared brain for each party.
Considering the difficulty of enticing only 4 Republican Senators to vote to subpoena witnesses and documentations the idea that 20 R-Senators would be moved by the new witnesses is non-existent. The guilt or innocence of Donald Trump is no longer the issue in the collective mind of the GOP. Whether the acts of the President have risen to the level of impeachment/removal is likewise long extinct. The only exigency is whether the trial will be over in January or bleed over into February and extend past the Prospective February 4th State of the Union Address in the House chamber of Congress. The closure date is essential in the determination of the content of the Address.
If there were witness subpoenas issued, the Trump defense team would certainly oppose them in courts. Those proceedings certainly would drag out the removal vote possibly by weeks.
To be sure, Trump’s speech will be either a claim of victory and exoneration or a diatribe on how unfairly he is treated and fake the whole process is. Needless to say either version will be uniquely Trumpian in is flavor and content.
Beyond the urgent need to wrap the trial by Feb 4th, there is the November elections to consider. Not only will their vote in the trial matter to Senators running for their own reelections now but their behaviors will impact all Republicans in every state legislature by association. Nothing in this world happens in isolation. There will be some price to pay. While there will be voters who approve of what they see, there typically will be equal numbers who do not. Also there will be the other half of the eligible voters who will still not vote. It remains to be seen which way these Senate proceedings impact the composition of the House and the Senate after the election.
Trump needs a villain to flog in order to keep his brand in front of the faces of voters. This entire impeachment and removal trial has been couched in an effort to draw Joe Biden into the fray and make him the focus. This entire theatrical production is singularly an attempt by the sitting President to demonize Biden so he would become the replacement for Hillary Clinton who is not a candidate adversary this time around. Trump first got himself into the hot water due to his understanding he needed to get help making Biden appear to be “As bad as” Hillary and therefore people should vote for Trump instead.
After the Trump’s reelection campaign team got the ball rolling with the Ukraine investigation scandal they enlisted the entire party to keep it going. Every defense team member has attempted to drag Joe Biden into the witness list so as to further demonstrate his villainy. So far he has been successful in avoiding being drawn in and have to comment.
